COVID-19 antibody testing for patients.


We are receiving many enquiries from patients requesting antibody testing for Covid-19.

We are following NHS England policy and are therefore only able to offer antibody testing for patients when you are having bloods taken for another essential purpose.  

We regret that it is not possible to offer antibody testing to patients simply because you are interested or feel that they need to know the result for another reason.

It is important to understand that an anti-body test result, be that positive or negative, does not change anything. There is no guarantee of immunity to reinfection and each of us remain personally responsible for following the guidelines on social distancing and hygiene measures which are in place.   

It would be a huge waste of limited NHS resources to be carrying out large numbers of tests on patients when the result makes no difference to how we should be acting to protect ourselves and others.

Following appropriate triage, if you need to consult us for medical treatment, we will first offer you a telephone appointment, followed by further care as necessary.

Only attend the surgery when specifically invited to do so.

Ibuprofen and Coronavirus

According to NHS England, there is no conclusive evidence about the safety of ibuprofen with coronavirus / COVID-19 infection. The national advice is currently:


  1. For patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 infection, paracetamol is advised in preference to ibuprofen.
  2. For patients already taking ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatories, they are advised to continue.

To Whom it May Concern Letters

We wish to advise patients that as from Monday 16th September 2019 the process for requesting To Whom It May Concern Letters will change.

Payment is now required when you request the letter.  Please give details of the letter required to the receptionist when you the £20.00 fee.  We will contact you when your letter is available for collection at the surgery.

Tyntesfield Medical Group Patient Experience Survey

Last year, Tyntesfield Medical Group introduced a Repeat Prescription Hub to standardise its repeat prescription process and make ordering medication more efficient. We would be grateful if you could complete this short survey to provide feedback on your experience of using the Prescription Hub. This survey has 16 questions and should take around 10 minutes to complete.

Patient Access Service

We have been advised by the clinical provider that in order to resolve the issues patients are having , they are to contact the Patient Access Support Team directly by clicking HERE and completing the form.

If you need to order a prescription we do not take requests over the phone but you can speak to you nominated pharmacy, pop in to the surgery or email us on

Improved Access

We are working together with other practices in North Somerset by ensuring “Improved Access” appointments are available in the early morning, evenings and at weekends at Tower House, Backwell, Brockway and Long Ashton. Please speak to a member of staff to find out more.

Under normal circumstances one of the four sites will be open on a Saturday or Sunday morning each weekend. As Tyntesfield Medical Group patients, if you require an appointment on a weekend, then you may be seen at whichever location is open that day.

Weekend appointments have proved very popular with patients who find it very difficult to make normal appointments times on a weekday. Weekend surgeries will only be available for pre-booked patients. If you think you need to see a Doctor at short notice on a weekend you should ring NHS Direct on 111 or in the case of an emergency 999.


There have been a few suspected cases of measles in North Somerset.  If you suspect you may have the disease, please ensure you telephone the surgery rather than attending due to the risk to other patients.

Current Studies

ANTLER – looking at the effectiveness of long term use of antidepressants to prevent relapse in depression.

This study is open and participants have been invited through mail out but this study may also be discussed at your GP appointment if appropriate.

RENEWED- a study looking at the use of an online tool to help cancer survivors with aspects affecting quality of life such as fatigue, healthy eating, exercise and mood.

This study is OPEN , initial recruitment was  through mail out invitation but participants can also opportunistically sign up for this if eligible.  More information available here
